Something to be enthusiastic about

Meeting – Tuesday 15th March 2011

There was plenty to be enthusiastic about when we were on display to the world this morning. Toastmaster Eric Schwerzel chaired an open meeting to the public as part of Toastmasters month and what a great meeting it was! There was entertainment, lots of learning and laughter and some wonderful speeches – all in all, a great way to kick-start the day!

We had a pleasing number of guests attend for the first time. We were also privileged to have Cynthia Mitchell and Judit Nikolic (A4 Area Governor) join us.

Grammarian Joanne provided a tongue-twister for Word of the day (perspicacity) and pulled off an outstanding job. Table topics master John kept everyone on the edges of their seats with a variety of testing topics and Jo kept everyone to time.

During the formal part of the programme, we heard from three speakers. First up, Bernadette who appealed to the audience with some compelling cases to “Mondayise” public holidays that fall on the weekend. Second was Nadene who was a complete natural when she presented her first ice breaker speech “All about me” – well done Nadene. Thirdly was Warwick, who encouraged everyone to celebrate life “Vegas style” – this guy is such a joy to listen to (Warwick – please sign up for the humorous contest).
Well done to our evaluators, Brenda, Marlene, Ben, Marieke, Clinton and special guest Cynthia who evaluated the whole meeting.

President Clinton wrapped up the meeting with a great quote from Charles Kingsley:

“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about”

See you in two weeks Central Park!
