“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”
Meeting – Tuesday 14 January 2014
Central Park got off to a roaring start this morning. Marieke hosted the first meeting for the year as Chairperson and set the bar high for following meetings.
The club ‘s theme was “Adventure” and there was plenty of adventure and word play as club members rose to Marlene’s grammarian challenge – to speak as many words as you could starting with ’em’. Everyone ‘embraced’ the opportunity and had loads of fun with it. Glenn in his usual style stole the show and took away the emmy for most ’em’ words (six to be exact).
Ben took table topics down the holiday route with Phil, Jo, Steve D, Clinton and Marlene speaking off the cuff about their personal summer experiences.
Samwell launched the second half by sharing his story on his profitable enterprise in Queenstown and the rewards of investing in people. Jeremy followed with a smooth radio interview from the PR manual, sharing helpful tips to save on fuel costs. Ruth transported us back to her childhood, recollecting fond memories of Longwood Estate with her speech “The Chauffeur, the Butler and Santa”.
Nice work by our evaluators this morning: Nadene & Brenda (table topics), Clinton, Glenn and Steve T (formal speeches) and John (general evaluator). Also, a pat on the back for time keeper Eric (or Emric) for flowing in time and in theme; Glenn for his golden holden hospitality and John for the morning pick-me-up coffee.
Cheers everyone! It was a great meeting to kick start the year. Remember to contact Brenda about entering or helping out with competitions on 11th February (Evaluation and International). See you at the next meeting on Tuesday 28th January 2014. Same time, same place!
