Contest Results

Meeting: Tuesday, 1 March 2016

Central Park Toastmasters held its 2016 Evaluation and International Prepared Speech contests on Tuesday 01/03/16.

We were pleased to have four eager contestants in the Evaluation contest: Jeremy, Phil, Eric and Clinton. This was particularly pleasing given the vital importance of a high evaluation standard in any club. Contests are a great way to lift those standards to new and improved levels which benefits not only our entrants but ultimately all our members.

There were two entrants in our prepared speech contest Phil and Eric, well done guys for making the effort and having a crack.

Marlene had done a great job assembling an experienced panel of judges. Marieke and Nadene did an equally good job of running the two contests with military precision.

We are pleased to announce that after some fierce competition to an incredibly high standard Clinton was victorious in the Evaluation and Phil won the Prepared contest, so they will both go forward to represent Central Park at the H4 Area contest on March 19th…..good luck guys!

Another action, fun packed meeting at the club where everyone was a winner. See you next meeting 15/03/16 where we will have a special guest……don’t miss out on this one!!!

A Pat of the Back for Clinton Jones

Central Park Toastmasters had extra cause to celebrate this morning, with the award of a well-deserved medal for our club table topics champion, Clinton Jones!

Clinton has been giving his impromptu speaking skills a thorough workout lately, placing first in our club Table Topics competition, then first again at the subsequent area competition.

Over the weekend he made a trip to New Plymouth, representing Central Park among the best of New Zealand’s Toastmasters to compete for the national first place.

Unfortunately he didn’t bring home first… but he did bring home a magnificent SILVER MEDAL.

H4 Area Governor Alan Cobcroft did the honours of presenting the medal. Excuse the blurry photo…

Area contests this Saturday!

You are all welcome! It would be fantastic to have as many friendly Central Park faces in the crowd as possible to support our contestants, Brenda (Table Topics) and Clinton (Humorous).

The action gets underway just after 9am at the Fickling Convention Centre, 546 Mt Albert Street, Three Kings.

Hope to see you there!

A round of rapturous applause

 Meeting – Tuesday 13 March 2012

“The only people without problems are dead”

Toastmaster Raj provided this quote and facilitated a great meeting at Central park HQ this week. There was a fantastic turn out too. In fact, attendance was so good, we struggled to find seats for everyone.

We had the pleasure of hosting guests, Area A4 Governor – Stephen McPhee, Cassia Bennett-Burkhardt and Rhonda Togipau. Apologies were received from Jo and Nick.

  1. Area contest – Saturday 24 March. Clinton will compete in the International Prepared Speech and Ben will enter the Evaluation contest.
  2. Semi annual invoices are out. Please contact Brenda.

Table topics

Jeremy presented a challenging scenario. He held photos of items that our speakers had to use in order to escape from a deserted island. Glenn F magically converted his mini matchbox to a life-size boat [and as usual delivered mutiple uses of the word of the day – ‘rapturous’ by grammarian Steve D], John stayed afloat in his bucket and spade, Mohammed was a master canoe craftsman with his ball of string, Nadene was set to surf on a  giant spoon, Ruth made an impact with her stick of dynamite and Stephen McPhee was well informed and equipped with his instruction manual. Providing constructive feedback for our speeakers were our evaluators Glenn L and Brenda. Great job!

After a nine minute spell catching up with the latest goss at half time, we were treated to some great speeches. Eric’s speech ‘HOLD ON’ had us engaged with a telephone conversation about people hanging off the side of an office building [Undoubtedly a Central Park Oscar winner!], Warwick took us on a fun and hilarious ride with his tribute to all the long-lost cars he’s loved in his life time and Steve T gave us behind-the-scenes access to his life as a real estate agent. An entertaining mix of presenters, all evaluated by Tony, Marlene and Ben respectively. Well done!

Special thanks to Raj [great job for his first time in the Toastmaster role], our president Marlene for her warm, delightful opening, our timer Marieke for keeping us in order, Sergeant at Arms John for early morning sustenance and Clinton for stepping in to cover Jo as general evaluator – legend!

This meeting was met with rapturous engagement!  See you all at the next one!
